Celebrating Deepavali with the Sri Om Foundation
Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)
—Speaker, I recently had the opportunity to celebrate Deepavali, with the Sri Om Foundation. Deepavali, the festival of lights, is a celebration of togetherness. Good over evil and light over darkness. Whilst its origins come from South Asian faiths and tradition, I believe its meaning and significance is important for everyone to share. I would like to take a moment to recognise Sri Om Care and the great work they do for our community. Sri Om serves over 900 seniors monthly, across five centres, with over 200 seniors receiving care at home. From respite care to an innovative assisted living model, their services are all focused on culturally specific care – through familiar food, music, cultural celebrations, and language. This meaningful work encompasses the very essence of the Deepavali festival¬ – the importance of friendship, comradery, and harmony. I must say, I had a wonderful time at the event and would like to thank Sri Om's Vice-President Mr Jay Raman, the Executive Team and event organisers for hosting a very warm reception and for all the work they do for the Seniors in our community
