Bienne Terita's Olympic Debut
Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)
—Speaker, I would like to recognise Bienne Terita, an incredible local resident who has recently made her debut for Australia in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. At just 21, Bienne has already achieved remarkable success in rugby, representing Australia in both Sevens and 15-a-side formats. Bienne grew up playing in high-levels of competitive Oz-tag and later found her passion for Rugby Sevens when she was 14 years old. While attending Georges River College Peakhurst – Bienne was able to pursue a more serious level of the sport, where she was scouted for the Australian national team. Bienne's rise began as captain of the Australian team at the 2019 World Schools Sevens, where she was named MVP. She debuted for the national Sevens team in 2022, later making an impact at the Women's Rugby World Cup. Despite injuries, Bienne returned to form in 2024, earning a spot on the Paris Olympic team, where her incredible contributions helped Australia advance to the semi-finals. I would like to commend Bienne on her inspiring effort and dedication to the sport and congratulate her on these many achievements.
