Oatley Lions Village Festival
Mr MARK COURE (Oatley) (17:03:43):
On 21 October I had the privilege of attending the fortieth annual Oatley Lions Village Festival, hosted by the Lions Club of Oatley. The festival attracted approximately 15,000 people and I take this opportunity to recognise the efforts of volunteers involved in making the event a success, not just this year but also in previous decades. The President of the Lions Club of Oatley, Brian Pirie, is to be commended for his dedication to the months of planning prior to the festival. Of course, his army of members and volunteers must be acknowledged and thanked for the sacrifice of their time, energy and resources in making this charitable event a success.
This year's festival proceeds are expected to reach $35,000 for a range of charities, including children's cancer and Alzheimer's research programs, the Riverwood Air League, State Emergency Service and St John Ambulance. The festival also provides an opportunity for a range of local community groups to fundraise and promote their activities. I am speaking of organisations such as Oatley Scouts, Oatley Girl Guides, Oatley Flora and Fauna Conservation Society, and Oatley Heritage and Historical Society. I am proud of local residents, community organisations and small businesses in the St George area for offering their joint support to assist on this day.
