Crowd Safety Research

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I was recently contacted by Annikka Burge, a UNSW Honours Candidate who is conducting research on the safety of crowd dynamics an important topic for community safety. Annikka and her fellow researcher and chief investigator Milad Haghani are both local residents who are conducting an assessment called 'Developing Self-report Instruments for Quantifying Crowd Safety Culture, Risk Preparedness, and Safety Valuation'. Their research aims to have wide-reaching implications for crowd safety and counter-terrorism measures, as well as future safety policy. When I heard about their research project, I thought it was very interesting and very important for our community, and wanted to help them out by promoting a flyer in the front window of my office and in the neighbourhood notice boards. Annikka and Milad also reached out to our local paper the Leader to assist them in gaining more exposure for their research. It is great to see talented young people like Annikka and Milad, who researching important topics for the future of our community. I commend them on this important research and wish them well for their studies.
