Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Visit to Kogarah's Greek Orthodox Church
Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)
—Speaker, I recently had the privilege to attend the Greek Orthodox Parish of Kogarah for the visit of His All-Holiness, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The event included performances by the parish's youth, with gift presentations and cheerful hymns, creating a joyful atmosphere. It was such an honour to be a part of. The Patriarch delivered a heartfelt address and reminisced about his previous visit 28 years prior. He highlighted his appreciation for the parish's role in preserving Greek Orthodox traditions and fostering a sense of belonging among immigrants. His All-Holiness also noted the church's contributions to the community, including charitable works and cultural outreach, and emphasised the Orthodox Church's mission to combat modern challenges such as racism and poverty. It is always a great honour and privilege to attend events such as these and celebrate our diverse local community. The hopeful future for the Orthodox community was clear to see in this spirit of celebration. I would like to thank the organisers at Kogarah's Greek Orthodox Parish for their warm invitation and for hosting such a meaningful event as well as all attendees and performers.
