Amir Salem

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I rise to recognise a fantastic local member of our community, Mr Amir Salem. As President of the Australian Egyptian Forum Council, he has made significant contributions to our diverse, multicultural society here in New South Wales. As the Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism, I believe that our diversity is our strength. Mr Salem has been an advocate for diversity and harmony within Egyptian-Australian spheres through his service to community organisations and cultural groups. For this service, Mr Salem was awarded the Premier's Medal for Community Harmony last year, which I had the pleasure of presenting him. He also recently received an Order of Australia Medal [OAM] in 2021, for his work with migrants and refugees. Mr Salem's professional experience abroad has also helped to facilitate cross-cultural dialogue within New South Wales, promoting the interests of the local Egyptian community right here in Sydney. I look forward to working with Amir into the future and would like to thank him once again for his contributions to multiculturalism in New South Wales.
