St George Brass Band – Strike A Chord

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I would like to congratulate the St George Brass Band, who were recently announced as finalists for the 'Strike a Chord' chamber music competition. What a testament to their hard work and talent! I have had the pleasure of hearing the St George Brass Band play on many occasions! They are a group of volunteer musicians, ranging from beginners to experienced players. They often participate at community events within our local area and I must say, they are a talented group of individuals. This is also the fourth year that the band has won a cash prize in the competition. A big congratulations to the following individuals, who were a part of the two groups who won a Brass prize this year. In group one – the Junior Quintet, there was: Harry Kane and Oliver Wootton on cornets; Adiv Philip and Alex Putra on euphoniums; Leo Huang on Eb bass Tuba. In group two – the Junior Lower Brass Quartet, there was: Alex Putra and Adiv Philip on euphoniums; Leo Huang and Stella Shin on tubas. Congratulations to the players once again for your many successes in the competition.
