Daniel Long

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I would like to acknowledge an esteemed ANZAC veteran within our community, Mr Daniel Long. At the age of 104, Daniel continues to educate the next generation by promoting peace and sharing his experience of war. I had the opportunity to meet Daniel recently at the Georges Estate ANZAC Day ceremony, where he received special recognition for serving his country and the Commonwealth. This special honour has only been bestowed to six returned servicemen in the Sydney region so far. It was wonderful to see Mr Long's family in attendance and it is certainly evident that he is a much-loved and well-cherished member of the community. The stories he tells are absolutely heartbreaking and remind us of the importance of prioritising the health and mental wellbeing of our veterans. ANZAC Day provides us all with an opportunity to recognise the servicemen and women in our community who make a difference, so I would like to thank Mr Long once again for his service to country. May their sacrifices never be forgotten. Lest We Forget.
