Indigenous Blessing Ceremony

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—On 31 January I had to pleasure of attending the Indigenous Blessing Ceremony at the Bridge Street Kids Hurstville Centre. Bridge Street Kids is an early learning centre that places an emphasis on play-based learning, sustainability education, as well as developing an understanding of various cultures and traditions within the local community, including the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditions. The Indigenous Blessing Ceremony marked the beginning of a partnership with Wandana Aboriginal Education, where Indigenous educators will join the teaching team of Bridge Street Kids. The kids will be able to learn about the rich culture of Indigenous Australia, and the lasting impact of this culture today. It was great to attend the Hurstville centre to mark the commencement of the program and I commend Nancy and the team at Bridge Street Kids on a fantastic Indigenous Blessing Ceremony. It was fantastic to see how excited the kids were about the new program, and I look forward to hearing more about the success of the initiative over the coming year.
