Tribute to Dr Henry Ngai, OAM

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley) (16:23:51):

I speak in remembrance of the late Dr Henry Ngai, OAM. Henry was the co-founding chair of the Liberal Party Chinese Council, founding trustee of the Australian Chinese Charity Foundation and Chairman of the Chinese Catholic Community. Henry was always generous with his time and efforts to help those less fortunate. Some of the organisations he was involved with include World Vision, the Red Cross, Fairfield Hospital, Kids Off the Street and some natural disaster relief programs. Henry started a cataract charity operation team to offer free eye operations in Cambodia and China. In the past few years, the team started donating and assisting with the provision of hearing aids to people in China. Last year during the refugee crisis in Europe it donated 100,000 winter jackets to refugees in Germany. In the past few years, Henry and his company spent more than $2 million on medical research, medical equipment, hospital donations, education and disaster relief. In 2018 Henry was awarded the Order of Australia by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Henry was a well‑loved philanthropist. It is a great honour to commemorate his contribution to our society.
