Georges Riverkeeper

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I would like to recognise and congratulate the entire team at the Georges Riverkeeper organisation. For their environmental efforts, they have received a 'Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities' Award. This award recognises their commitment to preserving the Georges River catchment for future generations to enjoy. Established in 1979, Georges Riverkeeper has become one of Australia's longest serving catchment management groups. Over the last 40 years, they have advocated for better river management and preservation practises. As the largest body of water running through my Electorate, the Georges River is incredibly important for locals in my community. Not only is the Georges River used for recreational purposes, but it is also an enormous source of pride for indigenous members of my community. Their 'Zero Litter in Georges River' project is one I am incredibly proud of. In partnership with six local councils, primary schools and the wider community, Georges Riverkeeper has been able to reduce waste entering the Georges River through stormwater. I would once again like to congratulate everyone at Georges Riverkeeper for their continued efforts. I wish them all the very best moving forward.
