Migrant Information Day

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, Migrant Information Day is an important event in the St George community calendar, aiming to promote cultural diversity and harmony locally. This year, Georges River Council and Bayside Council partnered with Advance Diversity Services to provide support and information to new migrants and refugees. Held at Marana Auditorium in Hurstville, visitors could also enjoy cultural performances and stalls, with bilingual staff ready to offer a helping hand. It was a fantastic turnout on the day, with people from different backgrounds coming to support the event. As the Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism, I believe that we are stronger when we come together. Despite being from different backgrounds, we thrive in New South Wales because of our commitment to supporting diversity. Of course, migrating from a different culture can be an incredibly difficult process. However, events like 'Migrant Information Day' enable refugees and migrants to settle into the community, whilst also enhancing their understanding of resources that are available to them. I would like to thank Georges River Council, Bayside Council and Advance Diversity Services for continuing to support this wonderful initiative.
