Westfield Local Heroes - Nellie Doueihi

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I rise to congratulate my constituent, Nellie Doueihi of St Declan's Catholic Church in Penshurst. Nellie was recently announced as the 2023 Westfield Local Hero for Hurstville. The program, which is in its sixth year, celebrates our wonderful local volunteers and their invaluable contributions to our community. The program rewards a $20,000 grant for the program winner, to support the group or organisation they represent. As one of the coordinators at St Declan's Catholic Church in Penshurst, Nellie provides 300 elderly people with services and support, with the help of 130 volunteers. One of her most successful initiatives has been the 'Tech Savvy Seniors' program, in which school students help elderly people connect with technology. As a recipient of $20,000 grant, this funding will ensure that Nellie can continue to provide services to seniors in our community who need it most. I would like to once again congratulate Nellie and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
