Mid-Autumn Moon Festival

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley) (16:33:20):

I recently had the opportunity to attend the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival Chinese opera performance, held at the Marana Auditorium in Hurstville. The Mid-Autumn Moon festival is such an important time in the Chinese calendar, honouring the full moon and celebrating a plentiful and good harvest. This is a time for families and friends to come together and celebrate the sharing of mooncake whilst upholding age-old traditions. On the day we were fortunate enough to enjoy performances from an array of local artists, all of which were fantastic. We live in one of the best multicultural societies in the world, and events like this contribute to our outstanding reputation, allowing us to celebrate the cultural heritage and traditions of the Chinese community living in New South Wales. I thank Anne Farrah-Hill, the CEO of Kingsgrove Community Aid Services, who did a fantastic job of organising the day. I also thank the former mayor of Georges River, Nick Katris, the member for Strathfield, Jason Yat-Sen Li, and Councillor Nancy Liu of Georges River Council. I thoroughly enjoyed the performances and I look forward to next year's event.
