National Science Week

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley) (16:03:12):

Last week was National Science Week. Running from 12 August to 20 August, National Science Week is Australia's annual celebration of science and tech across the nation, including in the electorate of Oatley. As shadow Minister for Jobs, Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology, I want to see more young people getting involved in STEM. We have so much talent in New South Wales and we need to harness it to make us a global leader in fields like science, medical research, technology and space. National Science Week is Australia's annual celebration of science and technology. Thousands of individuals, from students to scientists, get involved, taking part in science events across the nation. Science week is designed for everyone. It is definitely not restricted to schools and universities, with events, activities, talks and shows for every age group. It provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Australian scientists to the world of knowledge. It also aims to encourage an interest in science pursuits among the general public and to encourage younger people to become fascinated in the world we live in.
