Education Week 2023

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I rise to acknowledge Education Week, which was held from the 31st of July to the 4th of August. This year, Education Week celebrated 175 years of public education in New South Wales, an incredibly significant milestone. Education Week was celebrated by students across the St George area, giving both pupils and teachers the opportunity to slow down and reflect on what learning means to them, whilst also embracing the future of education in New South Wales. With the Board of National Education being formed in 1848, our education system has seen significant change over the last 175 years. However, the core objective has always remained the same – preparing our younger generation to think critically and grow as individuals. My wife, Adla is a teacher at De La Salle at Cronulla, and I am so grateful for the work she does. I know how incredibly hard she works for the good of her students, often with little to no recognition. I would like to specifically acknowledge the hard work of all teachers across New South Wales. Your passion and dedication to the lives of today's learners should be celebrated and commended.
