Warren Saunders Tribute

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I rise to acknowledge the passing of a local hero in the St George community, Mr Warren Saunders OAM, who served his community faithfully for over 80 years. Known colloquially as 'Mr St George', Warren grew up in Bexley, attending both St Michael's and Marist Brothers Kogarah whilst playing Cricket on the side. Following High School, he quickly rose through the ranks, playing 1st Grade cricket for St George, and eventually going on to captain the NSW State team. Mr Saunders also played a major role in grassroots sport in the community, serving for 37 years on the St George Cricket Committee. As a big supporter of small business in our area, I am so proud that the Insurance Brokers Agency that Warren established over 60 years ago is still going strong. For exceptional service to his community, he received an OAM in 1989. I pass on my condolences and deepest sympathies to his family. I know that Warren Saunders will be remembered fondly for his heart for the St George community, as well as his resilience, enthusiasm and integrity.
