Reception for the Prime Minister of India

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—It was a great honour and privilege to meet the Prime Minister of India, His Excellency the Honourable Shri Narendra Modi recently during his visit to Australia. Our great State had the privilege of hosting the Honourable Shri Narendra Modi at the only Australian public reception in his honour. There was a fantastic turnout, with over 20,000 people coming to hear His Excellency speak. The event was organised by the Indian Australian Diaspora Foundation, who do fantastic work within communities across the State, partnering with over 350 diverse organisations and working closely with the Indian Community in New South Wales. It was also fantastic to meet with the Resourceful Australian Indian Network [RAIN] and South Sydney Indian Association, two wonderful Indian organisations operating within my Electorate. Australia and India have a long-standing history of diplomatic engagement, built upon our shared values of freedom, democracy and a desire for peace and stability. It was a pleasure to meet with the Shri Honourable Narendra Modi, and I know that the relationship between India and New South Wales will continue to flourish into the future.
