Norman Sandstrom

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I would like to acknowledge an amazing member of the local community, for outstanding service to both his country and the Oatley Electorate. Norman Sandstrom, who recently turned 100, is a World War Two veteran and champion of his local community. He, alongside his fellow Countrymen, were recently honoured at the ANZAC Day Service at the Grandviews Bowling Club in Peakhurst. Norman served in the 7th Australian Division Engineers in Borneo. He was also one of the tens of thousands of Australians who fought on the Kokoda Trail, experiencing some of the most gut-wrenching conditions and vicious fighting that any Australians had seen over the entire course of the War. Following his return from the War, he ran a very successful engineering firm and worked as a foreman. He is also a life member of the Penshurst RSL Sub-Branch, where he served as a welfare officer for many years. I thank Norman for his dedicated and long-standing service to his country and his community. The entire community is behind you Norman, we owe you an enormous debt of gratitude.
