Hurstville War Memorial 100th Anniversary

Mr MARK COURE (OatleyMinister for Multiculturalism, and Minister for Seniors)

——Speaker, I rise to recognise the 100th Anniversary of the Hurstville War Memorial, commemorating local service men and women who have served in War. I attended an event to commemorate the anniversary earlier this year. When the memorial was unveiled in 1922, over 10,000 locals gathered to commemorating the sacrifice of 173 servicemen killed during the First World War. Today, the War Memorial not only acknowledges service men and women who gave their lives to defending their countries, but also those who continue to serve our country to this day for the Australian Defence Force. I would like to thank Gordon Blair, the secretary of the Hurstville RSL Sub-Branch, for organising the commemoration service and making myself and everyone else who attended feel so welcome. It is still so important to uphold the values that our service men and women fought and died for. We acknowledge their sacrifices and strive to create a better future for all Australians.
