Rotary Club of Hurstville Canada Day Celebrations

Mr MARK COURE (OatleyMinister for Multiculturalism, and Minister for Seniors)

——Speaker, I rise to thank the Rotary Club of Hurstville for hosting me at their recent Canada Day Dinner. Canada Day celebrates the establishment of the British North America Act in 1867, which consolidated three separate territories into the single nation of Canada. Canadians participate in celebrations each year on the 1st of July, and I was lucky enough to attend the Rotary Club's celebration dinner this year. As the Minister for Multiculturalism, it is so important for us all to recognise that New South Wales is home to a diverse range of cultures, as well as many nationalities from across the world. Australia and Canada have a long-standing relationship and work together closely in many areas, including trade and economic development. It is so important that we as a nation continue to develop this strong alliance and support Canadian Australians through celebrations such as Canada Day. I'd like to thank the president of the Rotary Club of Hurstville, Janice Gartrell, for hosting me at this event. I look forward to celebrating Canada Day next year!
