Work Continued in Schools Over Summer Break

While school students and staff were on holidays, the NSW Government has been working hard to ensure capital works and maintenance projects at nearly 500 public schools across the state are ready for the year ahead.

“Over the summer break work continued on projects to the value of around $220 million, $178 million in major capital works and $42 million in minor capital works,” Mr Coure said.

“Projects have been undertaken at two Oatley schools while students and staff have been enjoying the summer holidays.

“With schools free of students and staff during the summer break, the holidays provided tradies and contractors the time they needed to make improvements, repairs and upgrade facilities.

“We want our students to have the best possible schools and we remain focused on ensuring improvements across the state continue to be made.”

Examples of minor works and maintenance at schools include: upgrading classrooms, painting, toilet upgrades and grounds improvements.

The schools benefiting from minor works and/or maintenance in Oatley are:

· Oatley West Public School – Guttering and Roof Repairs

· Peakhurst Public School – Painting and Paving

“The investment in these improvements to Oatley schools is part of the $450 million committed by the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government to enhance public school infrastructure,” Mr Coure said.

“This targeted funding will make our schools better places for students to learn and teachers to teach.”

Since 2011 the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has committed almost $4 billion to school infrastructure and maintenance, announced 50 major upgrade projects and funded 23 new or relocated public schools.
