Protecting Local Childcare in Riverwood

With the recent announcement of the revised Riverwood Housing Proposal, local parents and staff at SDN Riverwood contacted me to raise concerns that this latest plan accounted for the demolition of their current site along Belmore Road.

SDN Riverwood has been provided vital childcare and education services to the Riverwood community since 1947 and they have recently received an Exceeding Rating in all 7 quality areas of the sector. The staff and centre is an invaluable asset to the local area and hardworking local parents rely on the dedicated, compassionate and high-quality education and care provided by SDN Riverwood.

I recently had the opportunity to meet with Area Manager Christie Sherfan, parents and staff from SDN Riverwood discuss our fight to ensure that the revised Riverwood Housing Proposal guarantees a replacement centre, and also to discuss what temporary options can be put in place in the interim to ensure uninterrupted childcare services in Riverwood.

I am committed to fighting on behalf of local families to ensure that the Riverwood community continues have high-quality childcare options available to them. To that end, I have written to the Minister for Housing, the Hon. Rose Jackson MLC to ensure that our community's concerns are addressed appropriately.

I will keep the community updated on any response I receive from Minister Jackson and the NSW Government!
