Penshurst Public School Celebrates 'Topping Out'

The new Penshurst Public School is one step closer to being completed with the project achieving the significant ‘topping out’ milestone. The project team recently poured the last concrete slab, meaning that the structure of the school building is now complete. Mark Coure, Member for Oatley, welcomed the progress on the new school building, saying that students are one step closer to using the new school facilities.

“The Penshurst Public School upgrade is just one example of the NSW Government’s record-breaking investment in school infrastructure,” Mr Coure said.

“While the COVID-19 pandemic has meant most of our students have been continuing their learning from home, the NSW Government has been getting on with the job of delivering for school communities.”

“I have been watching the building upgrade progress over the past few months and I am excited to announce that the main building structure is now complete.”

“I know that the Penshurst Public school community is eagerly waiting to move into the school and benefit from the state-of-the-art facilities, and with the ‘topping out’ completed this is now one step closer.” Education Minister, Sarah Mitchell, also welcomed the completion of the new school building, saying the NSW Government was working hard to deliver the school facilities that students and local communities deserve.

“Students and teachers at Penshurst Public School will have access to the very best facilities, which will benefit the local community for generations to come,” Ms Mitchell said.

“We are making the largest investment in public school infrastructure by any State Government in Australian history. This includes building new schools but also upgrading existing facilities to enhance the educational environment for students across the state.”

“It has been fantastic to watch the progress of the Penshurst Public School upgrade and I am sure the school community cannot wait to use their new facilities.”

The multi-million dollar Penshurst Public School upgrade will deliver a new school that is equipped with 47 flexible classrooms, a new library, a new covered outdoor learning area and a new hall.

The school will also maximise open play space, being among one of the first schools to enjoy an extensive rooftop playground. Penshurst Public School is one of 190 schools that are being upgraded or rebuilt thanks to the NSW Government‘s $6.7 billion investment in school infrastructure.
