New school zone at Marist College Penshurst

Minister for Roads and Freight, Duncan Gay, and Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, today announced the installation of an additional school zone at Marist College, Penshurst to improve safety for students and pedestrians.

“The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has funded the installation of a 160 metre school zone from 10 metres south of Victoria Avenue to 50 metres south of Cook Street, at the rear entrance to the school,” Mr Gay said.

“Motorists are advised a new 40km/h speed limit will operate between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm and 4pm on gazetted school days from the start of term one on Tuesday 27 January.

“This is in addition to the existing 40km/h school zone on Victoria Avenue and Ocean Street, which will remain unchanged,” Mr Gay said.

“Having been a former student of Marist College Penshurst, I’m pleased the Minister and the NSW Government are rolling out such great road safety initiatives for schools in my electorate,” Mr Coure said.

“Along with more than $30 million this year being allocated towards flashing lights, school zones form an important component of traffic safety around schools.

“Parents and motorists are advised to follow the direction of traffic controllers and reduced speed limits.

“When the school zone is operational, motorists are reminded to slow down, obey the 40km/h speed limit and be aware of pedestrians near the school.”

This is in addition to the NSW Government’s commitment to install flashing lights in every school across NSW by the end of 2015 – which is on track and on budget.
