More trains and more services across the St George region

Thanks to a $1 billion investment from the NSW Government, local commuters will benefit from a 30 per cent increase in peak hour services on the T4 Illawarra Line and an 80 per cent increase in services to Sydney’s domestic and international airports.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, said that these new services are part of the next wave of funding from the NSW Government’s $5.3 billion More Trains, More Services program.

“The NSW Government is committed to ensuring that services are directed to where they are needed most. This will ensure that commuters can get to and from home faster, with more frequent services available,” Mr Coure said.

“No matter how long the journey, I am devoted to making sure that commuters have adequate space on our train services, to create a more comfortable journey for all.”

Starting from late 2022 and continuing through to 2024, the program will deliver new services which will provide significant capacity for commuters from across the St George area.

• The increase in peak services on the T4 Illawarra Line will provide space to carry 6,000 more customers from stations including Penshurst, Mortdale and Oatley.
• The boost to services on the T8 Airport & South Line will create space for an additional 4,800 customers during peak periods from stations including Riverwood, Beverly Hills and Narwee.

Customers travelling via the T8 Airport & South Lines will also benefit from 17 new Waratah Series 2 trains as part of the program.

“More than half of these popular new trains are already on the tracks with the rest being rolled out rapidly as we carry out appropriate testing and trialling measures.”

“We know that these are some of Australia’s fastest growing suburbs along the T8 Airport Line and we need to ensure that these communities have the transport infrastructure and services to match.”

“This is fantastic news and a welcome plan to address future growth, so that people can become better connected to employment, study and recreational facilities across the Greater Sydney region,” Mr Coure said.

Since 2017, the More Trains, More Services program has already delivered over 1,700 more services, as well as 24 new Waratah Series 2 trains.
