Mark Coure And Education Minister View Progress At Local Public School Building Sites

Work at Penshurst Public School and Penshurst West Public School is well underway, with Local Member Mark Coure inspecting both sites with the Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell just before the school holidays.

Mr Coure said the upgrades were part of the NSW Government’s $6.7 billion investment in school infrastructure, which will see 190 new and upgraded schools across the State.

“The NSW Government is committed to improving school infrastructure across the state, and I am proud to see that many of these important educational improvements are happening in our local community,” Mr Coure said.

In December, Mr Coure and Ms Mitchell viewed construction at the Penshurst Public School site, which is undergoing a complete knockdown and rebuild.

The new school is expected to be completed in early 2021 and will include 47 new flexible teaching spaces, new administration and amenities facilities for staff and students, an upgraded library, new covered outdoor learning area and school hall.

“The completed Penshurst Public School will be a state of the art learning hub, and will have capacity to meet the population growth in our dynamic local area,” Mr Coure said.

“The technologically advanced new learning spaces will mean Penshurst Public School will be leading the way in teaching innovation in the local area.”

Mr Coure and Minister Mitchell also visited Penshurst West Public School to view the progress on the new two storey building which will deliver seven innovative learning spaces, new student amenities and a special programs room.

“I have been working with the Penshurst West Public School community over many years to see more permanent classrooms added to the school, so I am thrilled this project is underway and soon to be completed for students to enjoy for years to come,” Mr Coure said.

Ms Mitchell said it is always wonderful to see construction projects like Penshurst Public School and Penshurst West Public School well underway.

“This Government is rolling out the largest investment in public education in the history of NSW, so it is always encouraging to visit sites like Penshurst Public and Penshurst West Public to see the hardworking construction team preparing these world class facilities for students,” Ms Mitchell said.

“St George’s future doctors, lawyers, teachers and nurses are being shaped in the local public school system as we speak, so it’s absolutely crucial we ensure the facilities they’re taught in are of the highest quality.”
