Funding to Boost Economic Opportunity for Women

Mr Mark Coure today urged local organisations with innovative projects to enhance women and girls’ economic opportunities to apply for funding as part of the NSW Government’s 2017 Investing In Women grants program.

Mr Coure said the NSW Government’s Investing in Women grants program is a fantastic way to find new, local initiatives that invest in education, leadership and financial security for women.

Mr Coure said they are pleased local organisations in the St George area will have the opportunity to showcase new approaches to empower women and provide them with economic opportunities across the state.

“I strongly encourage organisations to apply for grants that are committed to providing economic opportunities for women across NSW including: young women, aboriginal women, older women, women living with disabilities, women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, or women living and/or working in regional areas,” Mr Coure said.

The program provides funding for organisations to develop and implement projects that support the economic empowerment and leadership of women in NSW across three areas:

• Work and financial security

• Education and learning

• Leadership

Minister for Women, Tanya Davies said the NSW Government is committed to supporting women in male-dominated sectors, careers and trades; encouraging more women into leadership roles and providing leadership pathways for young women.

“Since 2012, Investing in Women grants have supported projects that enhance women’s financial security and promoted female entrepreneurism,” Mrs Davies said.

Grants of up to $25,000 per project are available to organisations such as local councils, employers, industry bodies, training organisations, and non-government organisations. A total of $200,000 is available in 2017.
