Sydney Metro Now Open

The brand-new Sydney Metro is now open!

Designed, built and funded by the NSW Liberals, this transformational public transport project will change the way people move around our amazing city.

The Sydney Metro is Australia’s first fully-automated railway with Australian-first technology like platform screen doors, which keep people and objects like prams away from the edge, allowing trains to get in and out of stations faster.

Sydney Metro will connect local residents with six new metro stations through the city’s north and under the CBD, including at Martin Place, Gadigal, Barangaroo and Sydenham. These will be turn-up-and-go services with trains running every 4 minutes in peak hour and it also has the capacity to run a train every two minutes in each direction under the Sydney CBD.

Importantly for our local community, the Sydney Metro will ease the current pressures for trains passing through Sydenham Station, particularly in the peak periods, meaning improved running times and more comfortable services on the T4 line which services Hurstville, Penshurst, Mortdale and Oatley stations in our local area.

Also in the works is the upgrade of 10 existing Bankstown line stations which will be modified to become the new Sydney Metro Southwest line. Once this is completed this will also assist in removing pressure off the T8 line, allowing for greater reliability and more services at Riverwood, Narwee and Beverly Hills stations.

The NSW Liberals are committed to building the infrastructure of the future and I want to encourage everyone to jump on board and experience this exciting new mode of transport for our great city.
