Sydney Airport Visit

Recent Visit to Sydney Airport!

Sydney Airport is Australia’s international gateway and an essential part of the transportation and infrastructure network.

I recently had the opportunity to tour the airport in my capacity as both Member for Oatley and Shadow Minister for Jobs and Industry to check out some of the fantastic work being done in our backyard.

Sydney Airport connects Sydney to over 100 regional, national and international destinations, with more than 160,000 visitors per day. It generates over $42 billion in economic activity p.a. for NSW and Australia (equivalent to 6.7% of the NSW economy and 2.1% of the Australian economy), and also exports $14.6 billion in airfreight.

Did you also know it is a major employer for our local area! Around 1200 - 1300 people from our electorate are employed at Sydney Airport!

Additionally, more than 30,000 workers and 800 businesses are located across the precinct and the airport is indirectly responsible for more than 330,000 jobs across NSW and Australia, almost 10.1% of NSW employment.

A major cost-of-living pressure for Sydney Airport workers is the station access fee, which can add as much a $16 to every train fare. I am advocating strongly on behalf of many local workers to have this unfair fee waived, making getting to and from work that bit cheaper and easier.
