Oatley-Como Walkway/Cycleway Update

As a dad of two young boys, my family and I frequently use the Oatley-Como Walkway/Cycleway to enjoy the great outdoors, so I know how important these upgrades are for our community

Like many local residents, I’ve seen just in recent months the changes on the walkway with potholes and the poor state of the fence.

Local families regularly use this important active transport link each and every day which makes completing the repairs and upgrades needed more urgent than ever.

I continue to campaign for the upgrade of the path, additional lighting at night as well as amenities upgrades along the track including seating and fencing.

These urgent upgrades combined with increased maintenance will drastically improve the quality of the walkway for local residents to enjoy.

After pressure from the local community, including our petition which received over 1000 signatures, I am pleased to say that Transport for NSW has confirmed that they will provide funding to conduct essential repairs identified for the path, vegetation controls, safety signs and 12-month routine maintenance.

Additionally, Transport for NSW has also confirmed that they will fund the engineering design for the embankment stabilisation and upgrade works for the path, which is a big win for our local community.

However, Georges River Council is yet to respond to Transport for NSW regarding a timeline for commencing the works.

I am calling on Council to get on with the job and come to the table regarding these urgently needed works, our community has waited long enough for Council to get their act together on this project.

I want families to continue to enjoy the beautiful natural environment that we are so fortunate to have here on the Georges River and these upgrades will go a long way to achieving that goal.
