Work to ease congestion along King Georges Road is progressing, following community consultation on plans to widen the road between Beverly Hills and Hurstville.
Member for Oatley Mark Coure MP said Roads and Maritime Services is developing a proposal to help motorists save travel time between the intersections of Stoney Creek Road and Forest Road.
“Motorists experience significant congestion along this road corridor, particularly during weekday peak periods,” Mr Coure said.
“The proposed improvements are designed to deliver faster and more reliable journeys for the more than 43,000 vehicles travelling in each direction on weekdays.
“We’ve been listening to community feedback, and received 106 submissions to the proposal during our consultation process in September and October last year.”
Mr Coure said the project will now progress, including widening King Georges Road from Stoney Creek Road to Forest Road to create three lanes in each direction, separated by a concrete median.
“Thank you to everyone in the community who had a say. Overall, there is strong support for widening the road to help improve traffic flow and travel times,” Mr Coure said.
“There was also feedback received on the plans to ease congestion by restricting right turns in and out of George, Dudley, Clarence and Percival streets.
“In response to these concerns, Roads and Maritime will continue to investigate options to address these matters, while ensuring the overall project achieves its goal of reducing congestion on this busy and important corridor.
“Roads and Maritime will provide further information to update the community when these investigations are complete and develop a work schedule over the coming months, including anticipated start and finish dates.
“Work will also include relocating street lighting, kerbs and drainage, road resurfacing, line marking, some tree removal, trimming and landscaping.”
More detailed responses to the community feedback is published in a consultation report on the Roads and Maritime website at http://rms.work/KGR.
