Hansard session: Fifty-Eighth Parliament, First Session (58-1)

Regional Road Safety

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley) (11:47:08):

My question is directed to the chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Road Safety, Staysafe. Last week the committee tabled its report into interventions to reduce road trauma in regional New South Wales caused by speeding, fatigue, and drink and drug driving after a two‑year inquiry, and made recommendations concerning awareness and dangers of drink and drug driving. Did the committee's report make any recommendations to support Labor's three-strikes drug driving policy? If not, why not?

Mr Ron Hoenig:

Point of order—

The SPEAKER:

The Leader of the House rises on a point of order. Members will come to order.

Mr Stephen Kamper:

Ron, he was ready to go.

The SPEAKER:

The member for Campbelltown may well have been. The member for Manly, the member for Tamworth, the member for Albury and the member for Terrigal will be removed from the Chamber if they continue to behave in an unparliamentary manner.

Mr Ron Hoenig:

If the Opposition wants to ask the chair of the committee a question and refer to legislation that the committee has considered, then it should refer to the legislation by its proper name. Otherwise the question is out of order. The question, worded the way it is, misdescribes the legislation and is in breach of Standing Order 128 as it contains argument, inference, imputation and ironical expression.
