Morris Iemma
Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)
—Speaker, I would like to congratulate former NSW Premier Morris Iemma, who was recently appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) as a part of the King's Birthday Honours for 2026. Mr Iemma received this recognition for his service to the people and Parliament of NSW, particularly as Premier and also through his work in the not-for-profit sector and within grassroots sports. He served as a Member of Parliament for over 17 years, holding the positions of NSW Premier from 2005 to 2008, Treasurer from 2005 to 2006, Minister for Health from 2003 to 2005 and Minister for Sport and Recreation from 2001 to 2003. Morris also received this honour for his work supporting charitable and sporting organisations, including the Cancer Institute, Miracle Babies Foundation, Cricket Australia and Football NSW. While we come from different sides of politics, I can say without hesitation that Morris has always been a dedicated and hardworking advocate for his community. An appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia is one of our nation's highest honours. I congratulate Morris on this well-deserved recognition and thank him for his many contributions our state.
