Metro Assist Refugee Week Gala Dinner 2026
Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)
—Speaker, I would like to acknowledge the success of the Metro Assist Refugee Week Gala Dinner, which I was pleased to attend recently as part of Refugee Week 2026. The event brought together community leaders, service providers, volunteers and members of refugee communities to recognise the extraordinary contributions refugees have made to Australia. This year also marked an important milestone, with Metro Assist celebrating 40 years of service. Over four decades, the organisation has helped thousands of migrant families and individuals settle and connect in their new communities. I would particularly like to thank Metro Assist Chief Executive Officer, Nina Shahi and her team for hosting such a fantastic evening, as well as for their outstanding work supporting migrant and refugee communities across Sydney. I also acknowledge the many distinguished guests who attended, including Refugee Council of Australia CEO Paul Power, Mayor Bilal El-Hayek, Deputy Mayor Rachelle Harika, James Jegasothy from Multicultural NSW, local councillors, police representatives and parliamentary colleagues. I congratulate Metro Assist on this wonderful event and thank everyone involved for making it such a memorable occasion.
