Georges River College Stage Band – Big Band Blast

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I rise to commend the talented students of Georges River College, who recently took part in the Big Band Blast Festival held in Bathurst from 24 to 26 May. Each year, students from across the GRC campuses come together to form the Georges River College Stage Band and this year's tour was another great example of the opportunities that music education can provide. The event saw students attend specialist workshops, perform in front of live audiences and receive mentoring from some of Australia's best musicians. Musical education in our schools is so important and I am so pleased to see students from Georges River College still getting involved. I would like to personally congratulate every single student who attended. I also wish to sincerely thank Ms Pryce and Miss Walmsley from Oatley Senior Campus and Mr Payne from GRC Penshurst Campus, who gave up their time, over a weekend, no less, to support the students throughout the tour. Congratulations to all involved. Your talent and teamwork represent the very best of our local public schools.
