Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)
—Speaker, I rise today to recognise the outstanding contribution of Mr Anil Pokhrel, President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association Australia, [NRNA Australia] whose term as President will conclude shortly. NRNA Australia is the peak representative body for the Nepali diaspora, with over 16,000 registered members nationwide. Since assuming the position in September 2023, Mr Pokhrel has led with a genuine passion for his community. Under his leadership, NRNA Australia has hosted major cultural events across the state, most notably the Nepal Festival at Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour. This event brought together thousands of people and showcased the rich culture and traditions of Nepal. Beyond celebrations, Mr Pokhrel has ensured that NRNA Australia continues to serve as a support network for the community, providing assistance on issues such as domestic violence, mental health and social inclusion. His leadership has also seen the organisation gain Deductible Gift Recipient status, open its first dedicated community office and expand outreach across multiple states and territories. Mr Pokhrel has not only empowered the Nepali community, but also contributed to multicultural harmony across our state. I commend him for his leadership and lasting impact.
