John Veage

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I would like to recognise an incredible talent who has been telling the stories of the people and places in my community through his camera lens. John Veage is a dedicated photographer and storyteller who has worked with the St George and Sutherland Shire Leader for nearly 40 years. His exceptional ability to capture everything from community events to the serene dawn over our mangroves has left a lasting mark in the community. John joined the Leader in 1985 and quickly became a beloved figure, serving as Chief Photographer, and later as a photojournalist. His favourite moments came not from big events, but from unexpected encounters with locals, reflecting his deep love for our community. Beyond his work with the Leader, John has published three books and curated a successful exhibition and is now embarking on new adventures in surfing media. I would like to thank John for his passion and dedication which he has poured into the St George and Sutherland regions through his talent, and I wish him all the best for this next chapter in his life.
