Maronite Sports Day 2021

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, I rise to acknowledge the Maronite Eparchy of Australia and the Maronite Youth Diocesan Council for inviting me to the Maronite Sports Day at Bankstown Basketball Stadium. It was an honour to attend this event on behalf of the Minister for Sport and Multiculturalism, Geoff Lee, who provided $5000 to help fund the event. I also want to thank the Eparch of the Maronite Diocese of St Maroun, Bishop Antoine-Charbel Tarabay, for attending this event. This event brought individuals together from all beliefs and backgrounds to reunite our community after the difficult past 12 months that we have endured. During this time, the Australian Maronite community has been busy raising funds for disaster assistance here in Australia and towards essential items for families in Lebanon who were affected by the Beirut explosion in August 2020. At the Maronite Sports Day, I was given the honour of presenting trophies to the winning teams on the day. I also took the opportunity to recognise the high level of professionalism and sportsmanship that took place. Well done to the Australian Maronite community on hosting this outstanding event.
