Australia Day Awards 2021

Mr MARK COURE (Oatley)

—Speaker, given the difficult year that we had in 2020, it was both humbling and inspiring to see so many award winners recognised on Australia Day 2021. Throughout Australia, 845 individuals were recognised on the Australia Day Honour's List for 2021 and that included two outstanding recipients in my local community. Theodora Ahilas of Blakehurst has been honoured with an Order of Australia Medal for her service and advocacy for people affected by asbestos related diseases. Colin John Hopkins of Peakhurst has also been recognised for an Order of Australia Medal for his service to high school science education, particularly within the study of physics. I would also like to congratulate the following for receiving a Georges River Council Australia Day Award: Kurt Cheng – Young Citizen of the Year; Colin Campbell – Volunteer and Overall Citizen of the Year; Sofia Carvajal – Green Advocate of the Year. These are all outstanding achievements and I hope that you continue all of your amazing work through the year.
