Mark Coure, Member for Oatley today opened the new state-of-the-art St George Cancer Care Centre at St George Hospital.
Mr Coure toured the facility with Hospital staff and members of the St George Hospital Cancer Care Centre Building Fund.
Mr Coure and community leader Phill Bates AM officially opened the multi-million dollar facility which has doubled the capacity of cancer treatment services
State Government worked in conjunction the St George Cancer Care Centre Building Fund who have been fundraising for the Centre for the past 22 years.
The Centre brings medical oncology, haematology, radiation oncology and support services, as well as research, together under one roof.
Additionally, the Prostate Cancer Institute is housed within the Centre and offers the most comprehensive and sophisticated range of treatment options to fighting prostate cancer.
“Today, the vision for world-class cancer care in St George area has become a reality,” Mr Coure said.
“This Centre shows what’s possible when the community and Government work together to improve patient outcomes.”
“Cancer has touched the lives of many families in St George region and I hope that this Centre will be a place of healing and hope for those diagnosed with the disease.”
The redevelopment of the Cancer Care Centre includes an atrium entry connecting the clinical trials research laboratories and cancer specialists in the Pitney Building of St George Hospital with the Centre.
The Outpatient Clinic has also expanded to 19 clinic spaces with 7 new consulting rooms and 3 new purpose-built review spaces.
