Summer holiday maintenance blitz for schools in the St George Area

More than $841,000 will be spent on maintenance projects at ten schools in the St George area, which are running over the summer holiday period.

Projects at local schools include over $375,000 for new carpeting in classrooms at Penshurst West Public School, Peakhurst West Public School, Peakhurst South Public School, Lugarno Public School, Hurstville South Public School and Georges River College Peakhurst Campus.

Other maintenance projects commencing over the school holiday period include roof works at Oatley Public School and Mortdale Public School, and repainting at Narwee Public School.

Member for Oatley, Mr Mark Coure, welcomed the investment in local schools in the Oatley electorate.

“Every child deserves to have access to great facilities, wonderful teachers and get an excellent education and that is what we are delivering for students here in Oatley,” Mr Coure said.

Education Minister Rob Stokes said this program is another example of how the NSW Government is committed to public education and delivering local infrastructure to support communities right across the State.

“Just like your family home, there are always jobs to be done to keep our schools in top condition,” Mr Stokes said.

“We are making good use of the summer break to carry out important projects while students are off enjoying their holidays.

“With a $25 billion property portfolio of 2,200 schools there will always be maintenance to be done, but good management will keep the list as short as possible, and we are here doing just that.”

The summer holiday blitz is part of the NSW Government’s record $747 million school maintenance investment over the next four years announced in the 2017 Budget, allowing each and every school across the State to have their maintenance project lists slashed by December 2018.
