The Riverwood Hornets Cadet Unit were in high spirits over the weekend, hosting a fundraising concert at Mortdale RSL, which raised money for their upcoming delegation to Pearl Harbour in December 2026.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Hurstville and supported by local community groups, the event saw an outstanding turnout of 150 attendees, including Member for Banks, David Coleman MP and Member for Oatley, Mark Coure MP.
The fundraising event follows an invitation for the Riverwood Hornets Marching Band to represent Australia at the 85th anniversary of the Pearl Harbour attacks. This follows their inaugural trip to Pearl Harbour in 2019 for the 78th anniversary.
The Cadet Unit has a proud history of international recognition, having also participated in the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy, France, in 2024.
Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, praised the event, saying, "the Riverwood Hornets have once again demonstrated their capability, not only locally, but on the world stage. I do not doubt that they will do us proud at the Pearl Harbor commemoration.”
“Funds raised over the weekend will go directly towards covering travel and accommodation costs, helping ensure as many cadets as possible can take part in this significant commemoration.”
Unit Leader and Commanding Officer, Captain Chris Bailey, said that the group was looking forward to hosting many more fundraisers as the trip draws closer.
"Our cadets have trained and prepared tirelessly for this opportunity and the support from the community means the world to us. This is not just a trip; it is an opportunity to honour those who served and sacrificed."
“This was an extraordinary opportunity for our young cadets to honour history and forge valuable international connections. The Riverwood Hornets stand as a testament to the values of discipline, commitment, and service,” Mr Bailey said.
“We are ready to represent Australia with pride at Pearl Harbor."
“The Riverwood Hornets will proudly represent our local area, and this success would not have been possible without the community’s involvement,” Mr Coure said.
