Almost a year after it was closed on 6 December last year, the much-loved Peakhurst West Swimming Pool has officially reopened following a major community-driven upgrade, delivering a modern, family-friendly facility that will serve local residents for generations to come.
After strong advocacy from local residents, community groups and local representatives, the Peakhurst West Swimming Pool has been refurbished with a new roof, improved ventilation and a clean and wash to the pool surface.
Member for Oatley, Mark Coure MP, said the reopening is a major win for the local community.
“This is a major community victory. When Labor tried to close Peakhurst West Swimming Pool, local residents stood up, spoke out, and refused to give up and together, we won,” Mr Coure said.
“Peakhurst West Swimming Pool has been completely revitalised with new facilities and upgrades, ensuring local families can enjoy it for decades to come. It’s a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when the community works together.”
“As someone who learned to swim here myself, this is deeply personal. Seeing Peakhurst West Swimming Pool reopened and thriving again is proof that persistence pays off and that our community spirit is stronger than ever.”
“I want to thank residents and community groups who stood shoulder to shoulder to make this project a reality. This is what happens when the community unites behind a common cause.”
Georges River Councillor Oliver Dimoski praised the determination of residents who fought to see the pool restored.
“This upgrade is a fantastic win for local families. Peakhurst West Swimming Pool has been part of our community for generations, and it’s great to see it reopened, modernised and ready to serve the next generation of swimmers,” Cr Dimoski said.
Georges River Councillor Nancy Liu, who led community efforts and successfully took a motion to council, said the reopening is a direct result of people power and persistence.
“I’m proud to have taken the fight to council and helped put forward a motion recognising the reopening of Peakhurst West Swimming Pool,” Cr Liu said.
“That motion welcomed the reopening of the pool on 1 November 2025 following safety and amenity upgrades, acknowledged the strong advocacy of our local community, and recognised the pool’s longstanding social value.
It also called on the NSW Minister for Education and the Department of Education to consult with the community on future access changes, support local swim schools and clubs, and ensure the pool remains affordable for all patrons.”
“Peakhurst West Swimming Pool means so much to local families like ours. It’s where our kids learn to swim, make friends, and stay active. The upgrades have made it safer, cleaner, and more accessible, and we couldn’t be happier to have it open again.”
Local swim coach David Goff said the pool’s return will have lasting benefits for local swimmers.
“Peakhurst West Swimming Pool is more than just a pool—it’s a training ground for confidence, fitness, and community spirit. These new upgrades will make a huge difference for our swimmers and the local clubs that rely on it,” Mr Goff said.
"I'm thrilled to see on behalf of the community and the members of Peakhurst Amateur Swimming Club, Peakhurst West Swimming Pool back open and ready for another chapter in its proud history.”
