New Police Officers in St George

Three new probationary constables have commenced duties in the St George Police Area Command after being sworn in at a private attestation ceremony at the Goulburn Police Academy last month.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, congratulated the recruits on their dedication and hard work as they embarked on their chosen career in policing.

“Our 192 recruits of Class 343 come at an important time for the state of NSW. I wish them well as they embark on their chosen career,” Minister Elliott said.

“These officers can be assured that they have the full support of this government as they step into their career in law enforcement and service to the community.”

Last year, the NSW Government announced it was investing $583 million to introduce 1500 extra police over four years to enhance community safety across NSW.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, welcomed the recruits to the St George area.

“Our new police officers are a much-needed boost to the St George area and they will greatly help us as a community as we continue to face this COVID-19 crisis,” Mr Coure said.

“On behalf of the community, I am pleased to welcome these officers to their new command.”

Class 343 includes 130 men and 62 women and includes recruits from diverse backgrounds.

Twenty-three recruits were born overseas in countries including Zimbabwe, Chile and South Korea. Many are from non-English speaking backgrounds, with nine recruits fluent in a second language including Arabic, Korean and Vietnamese.

Six recruits are Indigenous with four coming through the Indigenous Police Recruitment Our Way Delivery (IPROWD) program.

The recruits have completed eight months of foundational training and those allocated to commands within the St George area reported to their stations from Monday 12 October 2020
