New crossing and traffic improvements for Oatley Public School

Member for Oatley Mark Coure MP recently announced that the new pedestrian crossing for Oatley Public School has been completed adjacent to the school and is supported by changed traffic conditions.

A new raised pedestrian crossing has been built in Letitia Street, near the crossing of Neville Street in Oatley, and is also supported by the installation of a no parking zone to the west of Letitia Street.

“I am delighted a new pedestrian crossing was funded, which is now making it safer for parents, carers, teachers and children attending the school,” Mr Coure said.

A no parking zone has also be added to the west of Letitia Street, providing an additional area for parents and carers to drop off and pick up their children near the school during the peak periods.

The new crossing includes signage and raised concrete islands to enhance pedestrian safety.

Providing these improvements is helping encourage children, the school community and locals to walk in the area with confidence.

“I would like to thank the President of Oatley Public School P&C, Clr Sandy Grekas, who is also a Councillor on Georges River Council. The P&C have worked tirelessly in lobbying the NSW Government and Council over several years to see this project come to fruition,” Mr Coure said.

Clr Grekas says the P&C have lobbied the government for years for this crossing.

“It has already improved pedestrian safety around the school by slowing down traffic and giving students a safe way to cross the street.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to Georges River Council and the NSW Government for joint funding of the crossing; it’s made such a big difference to our school community,” Clr Grekas said.

The crossing was funded under the NSW Government’s Walking and Cycling (Active Transport) Program. The project was jointly delivered by Georges River Council and Roads, Maritime and Services.
