New social housing projects in Peakhurst, Lugarno and Hurstville are being undertaken as a part of a multi-million dollar project.
Member for Oatley, Mark Coure said, that the new projects within the community demonstrate the NSW Government’s commitment to bring more social housing to the St George area.
“These properties are undergoing a complete transformation, which will develop invaluable community assets to support the growing housing needs of the local area,” Mr Coure said.
A $5.26 million 16-unit senior’s complex at Lugarno has just been completed, while a $22 million 37-unit project is currently under construction at Peakhurst.
“The recently completed complex at Lugarno, delivered by the NSW Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC), is all part of NSW Government’s $470 million social housing redevelopment pipeline in Sydney’s south.”
The complex has been dedicated specifically to senior living, offering eight one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom units, as well as step-free access and ground-level parking for those with mobility issues.”
Meanwhile, the 37-unit complex at Peakhurst will see six properties transformed into 72 units of mixed-tenure housing, with 37 units to be used for social housing.
The $22 million complex on Forest Road, Peakhurst will feature 13 one-bedroom, 21 two-bedroom and 3, three-bedroom units. It remains close to essential services, parks and transport and the development is set to be complete by mid-2023.
Minister for Planning and Minister for Homes, Anthony Roberts said, the projects also signalled a boost for local tradies and suppliers.
“Construction of these homes has provided a steady pipeline of work across Southern Sydney for local tradesmen and apprentices, with more than 130 jobs created during the builds,” Minister Roberts said.
