More Police for South West Sydney

The NSW Police Force has now welcomed 226 new police recruits after being sworn in at the Goulburn Police Academy last Friday, with three probationary constables joining the Campsie Police Area Command.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, is pleased to see that the probationary constables of Class 349 have already commenced their duties across the region. “The Campsie Police Area Command services local suburbs including Riverwood, Beverly Hills and Narwee and they complement the fantastic work of the St George Police Area Command,” Mr Coure said.

“As we continue to see eased restrictions, these new Police recruits will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance and keeping our community safe.”

Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, congratulated these recruits who are starting their new careers in times of unprecedented challenges.

“Congratulations to the men and women of Class 349, who have graduated and will join the NSW Police Force at its strongest and most efficient,” Minister Elliott said.

“After eight months of world-class training, the attesting officers have now joined their stations to invigorate the policing capabilities of this State.”

“The NSW Government has committed to invest $583 million to introduce 1500 extra police over four years to enhance community safety across NSW and is investing $60 million over four years to upgrade the Police Academy at Goulburn.”

Class 349 includes 153 men and 73 women. A total of 34 recruits were born overseas in countries including Brazil, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Iraq, Germany, Egypt, Serbia, Korea and New Zealand.

Some recruits entered the NSW Police Academy straight from school or university, while others left established professional careers and trades.

Many are from non-English speaking backgrounds, with recruits fluent in a second language including Portugese, Tamil, Swahili, Nepali, Arabic, Hindi and Korean. Three recruits are Indigenous.

The recruits have completed eight months of foundational training and those allocated to the Campsie Police Area Command have already reported to their new stations this week.
