Minns Labor Government votes against reopening the Riverwood Housing Office

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure MP, has condemned the Minns Labor Government, for voting against the reopening of the Riverwood Housing Office.

This comes after the office was quietly closed by the NSW Labor Government without community consultation, leaving housing tenants without access to face-to-face support services.

Mr Coure said the Government’s refusal to support the motion sends a clear message to tenants that their needs are not a priority.”

“This shows just how out of touch the Minns Labor Government is at a time when people are calling for face to face support instead of complicated and bureaucratic processes, they have been told to suck it up,” Mr Coure said.

“Riverwood has one of the highest densities of social housing in all of Southern Sydney. Currently, tenants have to travel all the way out to Ashfield to receive support, which can take up to an hour via public transport.”

Mr Coure raised a Notice of Motion in Parliament demanding action and has launched a community petition urging the Government to reinstate the Riverwood Housing Office.

“The Government made up all sorts of excuses as to why the facility could not be reopened, however at the end of the day, they are the ones responsible for this mess,” Mr Coure said.

“I encourage all residents to sign the petition and share their stories with my office, so that we can put pressure on the Government to reopen this facility, once and for all.”
