It was a significant milestone for 14 students from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Oatley this week, as they were recognised as the school’s leadership team for 2025.
Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, said he was incredibly excited to return to his former primary school to present certificates of congratulations to the newly elected student leaders.
“I always enjoy recognising our new student leaders, it is something I have been doing for years now, not just at St Joseph’s Oatley, but at schools right across the area,” Mr Coure said.
In a special assembly attended by students, staff and parents, Mr Coure congratulated the student leaders on their new roles, encouraging them to continue leading their school community with pride.
“As a former student of St Joseph’s Oatley, it is always a privilege to come back and see the next generation of young leaders stepping up to the task.”
“Today’s student leaders could be tomorrow’s teachers, nurses, doctors, volunteers, or even Members of Parliament. Leadership starts at our local primary schools and that is what we are celebrating today.”
The student leadership team for 2025 includes school Captains, Vice Captains, and Mary MacKillop team, who will play a key role in setting an example for their peers and supporting school initiatives throughout the year.
“My nephews attend St Joseph’s Oatley and I was honoured to present one of these awards to my nephew, Maverick Coure, who is an outstanding young person and a credit to his school and family.”
“I want to thank the teachers and families who support these students every day and I look forward to seeing the great things these young leaders will achieve over the next year,” Mr Coure said.
